Key takeaways

  1. 01Your timeline is the plan

The music and announcements are built around your run of show, not a plan of their own.

  2. 02One contact, start to finish

Questions about the ceremony, cocktail hour or reception all go to the same place, so nothing gets lost in a hand-off.

  3. 03An MC who keeps time

Names checked, toasts introduced in your order, and the caterer and photographer kept in step through the night.

You've built the timeline. You know which toasts will run long, where the photographer needs the couple at golden hour, and what happens if the rain comes in at three. You need the music to follow that plan, not a plan of its own.

Menzo Weddings provides wedding DJ and MC services across Michigan. Most couples book our Wedding DJ and MC for the reception, and live ceremony or cocktail-hour music can be added to that booking. Whatever the couple books sits in one plan: one set of questions for you, and one contact when the schedule moves.

A wedding DJ and MC who works from your timeline

We're used to working inside someone else's plan. Your run of show sets the times, and the music and announcements are built around it. Send the draft as soon as you have it and the final version when it's final, and every cue is fitted to it: the grand entrance, the toasts, dinner, the cake and the send-off.

That comes from experience outside music as well as in it. Founder Dave Menzo has been performing since 2001 and playing Michigan weddings for more than a decade. From 2012 to 2022 he was an account executive at MOVE Communications, running client projects, budgets and timelines, and before that he was a travelling event manager at In-Field Promotional Staffing, managing events across Michigan. He also runs Menzo Media, which includes live event production, and was nominated for Outstanding Live Sound Tech at the 2021 Detroit Music Awards.

One contact, start to finish

Planner and venue questions go to Dave at davemenzo@gmail.com. Questions about the ceremony, the cocktail-hour space or the reception room all go to the same place, and the answer doesn't get lost in a hand-off.

Adding live ceremony and cocktail-hour music to the DJ booking

Most couples book the Wedding DJ and MC. Some add live music to it: acoustic guitar and vocals, or piano, for the ceremony, a live set for cocktail hour, or DJ plus live music, where live musicians come in on top of the DJ set, in any combination of drums, guitar, sax and violin. It all sits on one booking and one plan, so there's no second music vendor to brief. Couples who want most of the reception played live book a live wedding band, which can have a DJ between sets and closing out the night.

A wedding MC who keeps your timeline

Names checked for pronunciation before the day. Toasts introduced in the order you set. The caterer told before dinner is released, the photographer found before the first dance, the room gathered for the cake. When the schedule slips, the change is agreed with you, and the guests never notice. The wedding MC guide covers the role in more detail.

Through dinner, the music is pitched for conversation, so guests can hear each other and your staff can hear you. Then the dance floor is read song by song.

For couples you're planning with

If you're sending a couple our way, these pages answer most first questions: how planning works, questions to ask a wedding DJ, a Michigan wedding timeline by season and outdoor ceremony sound. For music choices, there's DJ, live band or both.

“Dave Menzo, did an outstanding job at my daughter's wedding. He was excellent with all the music, read the crowd, and every one was so complimentary. My 2 year-old grandson couldn't stop dancing!”

Planner and venue questions

Will Menzo Weddings work from our timeline?

Yes. Your run of show is the plan, and the music and announcements are built around it. Send it as early as you have it, and send the final version when it's final.

Who is our contact, before and on the day?

Menzo Weddings, through Dave at davemenzo@gmail.com. The music plan, the couple's choices and your timeline all sit in one place, so nothing gets lost between people.

Can Menzo Weddings cover the ceremony and cocktail hour as well as the reception?

Yes. Most couples book us to DJ and MC the reception, and some add live music to that booking: live ceremony music on guitar and vocals or piano, a cocktail-hour set, or DJ plus live music.

Do you MC as well as DJ?

Yes. The MC hosts the entrance, toasts, first dance, parent dances, cake cutting and send-off, and keeps in touch with you, the caterer and the photographer through the night. See wedding MC.

What about vendor paperwork, load-in and power at our venue?

Every venue handles these differently, so write to Dave at davemenzo@gmail.com with your venue's requirements, and we'll answer for your site.

How do we refer a couple?

Send them to Check your date, or copy Dave on an email to the couple. We'll take it from there and keep you in the loop.
